North Carolina
I relocated to Charlotte in August of 2009 from Boston, Massachusetts. Relocating to North Carolina to be near my family has brought immeasurable joy to my life. However, as more school districts announce teacher cutbacks, the job market for Educators and Human Service professionals is tougher than I expected. I have many great qualities to bring to an employer, and would like the opportunity to demonstrate them.
As of January 2010, the state’s unemployment rate is 11.1%. Charlotte, North Carolina's largest city continues to experience rapid growth, in large part due to the banking & finance industry. Charlotte is now the second largest banking center in the United States. As of 2008,
North Carolina is the fourth-fastest growing state in the United States. I am enjoying all the benifits of living in Charlotte, and I look forward to finding an employeer that will allow me to utilize my skills and to share my life experiences and love with today's youth.
Since coming to North Carolina, I have volunteered enourmus amount of hours at the N. Tryon Job Link Career Center in Charlotte, helping thier clients with Career exploration, resume writing, cover letters, work ethics, job attitudes, interviewing skills, developing digital portfolios, MS Office 2003 & 2007, computer graphics, office skills, and computers made easy. It is unfortunate that I am unable to use my skills to obtain a job in this market. I do believe in Volunteering, and will continue to educate anyone who seeks help.
I've also had the pleasure of working with a great start-up company called
"TaDa"
(Talents Are Discovered Awareness) from January 2010 – March 2010. TaDa Coaches provide guidance and personal direction from a talent development standpoint, tutor students in specific subject area, empower students in his/her search for competence, self motivation and commitment; ensuring that their self esteem is enhanced and maintained. I tutored and mentored youth aged 5-11 in their specific subjects they needed help with. I grew very fond of the youth I worked with, and have learned that no matter what state I am in, there are many wounded souls that need to be healed. Being a start-up company, TaDA has some issues they need to work out, and it is my hope to work with them in the future coaching their clients. All one has to truly believe is that all the talents needed to succeed in life, are already within us.
My passion is to teach educators the best practices of integrating technology into their curriculum, and to do it in a way that excites their students to want to learn. To teach in a way that reaches the students of the 21st Century. Teachers need to become more aware of the enormous assets these new technologies can bring to their classroom, and in their curriculum. The use of on-line technologies such as e-mail, chat rooms, instant messaging, online gaming, and social networking has increased at an incredible rate. These do not need to be seen as only potential distractions.
Adults have become the digital immigrants as the students advance in their knowledge of today’s technology. It is the responsibility of teachers to learn how to use this technology for their students’ educational benefit. The Internet has provided youth with experiences to which they may never have been exposed. Information technology has become one of the most important tools in education. The Internet is growing at an astonishing speed and today’s youth are communicating with each other in new and different ways.
Teachers play an especially important role in these students’ lives. We can gain the students’ trust by being consistent, by being positive role models, and by providing the structure so many youth lack in their lives. We need to maintain healthy boundaries when working with today’s youth. All children can learn; schools and teachers can make a difference. Immediate gains are possible when the best practices available are used. Specific classroom strategies can increase student achievement. Computer assisted instruction can enhance learning in demonstrable ways.
We are teaching the information generation. We must understand that technology is part of today’s youth culture. We must not only recognize technology's promise, but also the magnitude of power it has in the hands of today’s youth.
